Excellent video. I’ve wanted to start an affiliate program but was waiting until I had more experience or a product of my own. Thanks for the advice that Internet Marketers should set up an affiliate program as soon as possible. Since I already use Hosting4Marketers it should not be too hard. I’m setting a goal to have one set up by the end of March.

What is a fair commission rate to pay your affiliates?

Getting an opt-in list is hard these days. Especially since everyone thinks you’re going to sell their information. Like honestly, I’m not going to do anything but send you update emails.

Hi Doug,

Your video sounds good, except towards the end it’s kind of filled with echo.

It would be great to set up everything the way you suggest but the devil is in the details.

Perhaps you cover those in your course which would be great.

Great video – well produced and informative. I’m not at the point yet of having my own product – working towards it. I also need to increase my traffic building strategies. Twitter and opt-in lists are quite successful for me but I need more SEO traffic.

Al Patoni stated that “list building is really hard these days because people think you are going to sell their information.” The fact is that it’s illegal to sell information obtained on a website UNLESS you specifically state that you will be doing this. There are so many privacy laws these days and I really think most people know this. I don’t find list building to be that difficult. I think if you are finding it difficult then it’s time to bump up your incentives. Even still at some of my sites, I just offer the content by email and I get a large percentage that subscribe because they prefer to receive it that way. I don’t even offer an incentive and it still works. Sometimes doing things the opposite of what everyone else is doing ends out working better. Although admittedly sometimes it doesn’t.

And you’re right – while people are less likely to sign up for as many lists these days as during the pre-recession times, they ARE still opting in and there are new people looking for information on how to make money online every day. Good, solid information will always find takers, with or without an incentive – the incentive just gets more people to try out your newsletter to see if it’s helpful to them. And either way, a lack of helpful info will lead to a quick un-sub anyway. -DC.
