<p><strong>Offline Businesses &#8211; 5 Free and Easy Ways To Get More Website Traffic </strong></p>

<p>More and more offline companies have &#8216;brochure&#8217; websites &#8211; static websites that just tell about the company, it&#8217;s people and it&#8217;s products. While that&#8217;s all fine and dandy for your existing clients to check, without some extra effort it&#8217;s not going to bring you a lot of new business, because most targeted prospects will never know it&#8217;s there. So let&#8217;s look at ways to get the attention of those prospects and get them to your website and hopefully through the doors of your offline businesses as well.</p>
<p>1) On-Site Search Engine Optimization (SEO). While this should have been looked after when the site was built, often it&#8217;s overlooked either out of ignorance or forgotten in the rush to collect from you. So to start with, check to see if your site is optimized for the search engines. In your web browser, go to your site, then choose View > Page Source from the browser menus. Do you see tags at the top of the coding for Title, Description and Keywords? Do they all have your main keywords listed in them? Don&#8217;t settle for a page title like ABC Company or Home Page &#8211; you need to incorporate the main phrase your potential customers would be searching for.</p>
<p>Is there a page on your site that links to every other page (a sitemap)? Or at least links of each page to all the others? Not only does one or both of these options make it easier for viewers to navigate your site, but it also makes it easier for the search engines to find every page &#8211; remember, search engines index PAGES, not sites.</p>
<p>2) Article Marketing. For offline businesses and online businesses alike, it&#8217;s important to remember that your prospects come online looking for information. In point form, write down every question you can think of that they might ask about your business, your products, and your industry in general. Now write informative articles that answer those questions &#8211; true articles, not sales pitches. You want to impress them with your expertise and how helpful your articles are. Add a paragraph at the end explaining who you are, what your company sells or what services they provide, and a link to your website. This paragraph is called an Author&#8217;s Resource Box and is standard online. Now submit those articles to the top article directories. Once published, they brand you and your company, demonstrate your expertise and help your prospective customers. You benefit both from the massive traffic at the directories, some of whom may click the link and visit your site, and from the search engines finding another backlink to your site.</p>
<p>3) Forum Marketing. Almost every niche has one or more popular forum covering their topics. Go to the major search engines and type in your industry or niche followed by Forum. Visit the forums that appear in the directories, and look for those with the biggest and busiest membership. Join the forum and read some of the posts each day for a bit til you have a good handle on how it&#8217;s run. Most won&#8217;t let you advertise in your posts there, but do allow a small ad in your signature on each post. Again be as helpful as possible, answering people&#8217;s questions fully when they&#8217;re looking for information. Once again, the idea over time is to make it obvious you&#8217;re an expert in the area, and to get them to click through to your site to find out more about you and your offline businesses. Of course, it&#8217;s also more backlinks for the search engines to find and follow to your site as well.</p>
<p>4) Social Media Marketing. This is a massive opportunity that most offline businesses never take proper advantage of. Set up an account at Twitter, for example, and do a search for your main keyword or keyword phrase. You&#8217;ll be shown each tweet that someone did with that word or phrase in it &#8211; go through those and watch for targeted leads, then click to follow those people. Ignore tweets from other suppliers, people who just mentioned it casually, etc, and focus on those you know will be in the market now or soon. Then watch your Twitter stream for questions they ask and answer them, engage them, and invite them to your site. Also, set up a page about your company at FaceBook &#8211; not a personal page, but what they call a &#8216;Fan&#8217; page. Each time you publish a new article as in #2 above, mention it on both your Twitter account and your Fan page &#8211; with a link to the article, of course.</p>
<p>5) Business Blogs Marketing. Business blogs are the most common tool used by professional online businesses, yet almost ignored by offline businesses. Not only do blogs give you a fast and easy way to talk about your company, discuss your products and announce new products or services, but they can also be a great place to publish those same articles you wrote for the article directories. And since both search engines and blog directories index blogs, you have even more ways for people to find your business blogs, and through them find yet more backlinks to your web site.  </p>
<p>These 5 quick and easy ways for offline businesses to get more traffic to their website are just the start &#8211; once you&#8217;ve mastered these you&#8217;ll see your site, your phone and your physical location picking up in visitors. And there are a lot of other free and paid ways for offline businesses to get more traffic to their websites, so get these strategies under control and then explore some of the other techniques so that you rise above and stay ahead of other offline businesses in your industry. </p>

<p>Internet marketing mentors are forever running into people asking for help &#8211; not newbies per se, but people who&#8217;ve been trying Internet marketing for two or three years and just aren&#8217;t getting anywhere. Recently I ran into this again when speaking both at Mark Hendricks&#8217; Internet Super Stars Conference (ISSC) in Orlando, Florida and again at Ken McArthur&#8217;s JVAlert Live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (JVAL) &#8211; and I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll run into a few more when I speak at David Perdew&#8217;s Niche Affiliate Marketing System workshop (NAMS) this August in Atlanta, Georgia.</p>

<p>The first thing I have to ask is always &#8216;What have you done so far?&#8217; I enquire about the state of their list-building, their blogging, their traffic-generation strategies and what they&#8217;re doing with Social Media and Social Networking sites. Most tell me they&#8217;ve done this, that and the other thing and none of it works &#8211; then they ask if Internet Marketing REALLY works, or if it&#8217;s all a sham, a con game or some sort of ponzi scheme&#8230;</p>
<p>A bit more digging shows me the problem is usually the same for most of them &#8211; let me give you a look at a comparative situation in the offline world first&#8230;</p>
<p><em>You need to get from Point A to Point B. One person suggests you use a car, another says go by boat, one says use a bicycle and the fourth person says take a plane to get there. So you rush home to your workshop and create a vehicle using the wing from a plane, the rear wheels from the car, attach the windshield from the boat and add the bicycle handlebars. You step back and admire your handiwork &#8211; a strange-looking contraption for sure, but you&#8217;ve combined the wisdom of your four advisors so you KNOW it has to work, right? You try and try and try and try &#8211; but get nowhere. Knowing you put in all this time and effort and did what they told you, the problem can&#8217;t be you so your advisors obviously don&#8217;t know what they&#8217;re talking about&#8230; Obviously cars, boats, bicycles and planes are useless as transportation, so you might as well just give up and walk.</em></p>
<p>Do you see where I&#8217;m going here &#8211; is the light beginning to dawn? Just as in the silly exaggeration above, these people have been getting advice from all over, reading dozens, sometimes hundreds of marketers&#8217; e-zines, reading blogs like crazy and then taking the parts they like and cobbling together a makeshift system for success. They&#8217;ve then spent a year or two trying, trying and trying again to make it work, as if expecting that simply trying it again will produce different results&#8230; </p>
<p>Is this reality any less silly than the fictional story above it? No &#8211; just a LOT more common. And, unfortunately, a lot more expensive both in time and money invested &#8211; and lost. In either scenario, if they&#8217;d followed the advice of any ONE of the sources they&#8217;d probably have made the journey just fine &#8211; but by combining the concepts using just pieces of each they&#8217;d destroyed their chances of getting there at all.</p>
<p><em>Yes, you say, but every system can be improved &#8211; that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m taking just the best parts from each! </em></p>
<p>Really? How do you know? Unless you already ARE successful online you&#8217;re in no position to tell which is the best part of any given system, no matter how smart you are. Even many of us at the top haven&#8217;t done enough tracking and testing to be 100% sure of what&#8217;s working best &#8211; they just know it works, and doing more of it works even better, so they&#8217;re happy with it. </p>
<p>Be prudent in your choice of whom to follow &#8211; make it sure it&#8217;s someone with years in the biz, plenty of experience marketing their own products and as an affiliate, someone who&#8217;s been successful online for a long time, but also in the last couple of years as the recession changed the business &#8211; just because they made a name for themselves a few years back DOESN&#8217;T mean they&#8217;re in touch with today&#8217;s reality. And avoid the new successes who have no background in the biz &#8211; there&#8217;s no way for anyone to know yet whether they&#8217;re the next Internet marketing genius or yet another flash-in-the-pan. </p>
<p>As a starter, use this qualifying list:</p>
<p><strong>* Have they been in Internet Marketing full time for 5 or more years?</strong> Had successful products of their own both then and new recently-released products? This is important because it demonstrates sufficient expertise to be able to write successful how-to guides or develop needed software. Without sufficient current expertise, they shouldn&#8217;t be coaching.</p>
<p><strong>* Are they also successful affiliates or super-affiliates that you see on the various leaderboards?</strong> This is important because coming out with great products can make you successful online with the right JV partners promoting your stuff, but it doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re a great marketer &#8211; or any kind of marketer &#8211; just good at product creation.</p>
<p><strong>* Does their Internet marketing style fit with your own personality?</strong> If you&#8217;re a Type A personality you&#8217;ll never stick with it trying to do laid-back marketing. If you tend to be calm and laid back, you&#8217;ll get eaten alive if you try gung-ho marketing styles best left to the sharks. And if the style of marketing doesn&#8217;t fit you, doesn&#8217;t feel right to you, you&#8217;ll never excel using those methods.</p>
<p><strong>* Is it group coaching or 1-to-1 mentoring?</strong> If you pick things up fairly quickly and are fairly well familiar with online processes and how things work, group coaching may do the trick and costs less. But if you want help with your specific issues, may need special attention understanding the technical side of the web or are really impatient to get ahead fast, pay the extra and take 1-to-1 mentoring. </p>
<p>Top-notch coaching can be expensive &#8211; and 1-to-1 mentoring much more so. But if it saves you those first few years of frustration and fumbling around, or puts you on the right track after you&#8217;ve been through that, or helps take your 4-figure business to 5, 6 or 7 figures much more quickly, what&#8217;s your return on investment? Assuming you&#8217;re acting with financial prudence, not using the rent money or going deep in debt to cover the costs, there&#8217;s very little you can invest in that will help you as much as good coaching and mentoring &#8211; in Internet marketing, affiliate marketing or many other areas of business (and life itself). Just make sure you&#8217;ve made the right decision in choosing your Internet marketing mentor and follow that ONE person&#8217;s advice until you&#8217;ve reached a comfortable level of success! </p>

Browse through the categories to find those most relevant to your own business, then read through the pieces already published about your industry. Try to identify patterns as to what is being published and where it ranks in the listings there &#8211; often that&#8217;s a good sign of what people interested in your industry are searching for online. </p>
<p>Internet marketing newbies often make the mistake of writing and submitting marketing related articles without doing this research first and as a result seldom see much traffic from their efforts. Since you&#8217;re using marketing related articles as part of your article marketing strategy for Internet marketing website promotion, pay particular attention to the articles getting the greatest number of click-throughs, and see if you can analyze what about them is causing more people to follow the links back to the author&#8217;s site. </p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve studied the available materials in the article marketing directory you&#8217;ll have a good idea of what content is drawing attention in your niche and what style of writing is getting the most traffic back to their website as a result. Now use those guidelines to decide on your topics and how you&#8217;ll write your own submissions and get busy writing.</p>
<p>Remember that the more of these free marketing articles you publish the greater your perceived expertise in your industry, and everyone prefers to deal with experts, right? Just make sure that your information is correct, relevant and well presented &#8211; when completed, read it to a friend or colleague or have them read it to you. If it flows nicely, run it through your spell-checker one more time and then submit it for an article marketing review at the biggest and best article directories. </p>
<p>Once they approve the article it will then be live on the Internet within their site and you can start driving traffic to it using the Web 2.0 sites like FaceBook, Twitter and Google Buzz. Encourage your target audience to read your postings in that article marketing directory and with any luck a number of them will then click through your link and arrive at your company site already knowing you&#8217;re an expert in your field. </p>

<p>A pretty good podcast, or really a succession of pretty good podcasts, is all you need to attract an online audience. But just what does a &#8216;pretty good podcast&#8217; entail?</p>
<p>First, let&#8217;s look at how to make a podcast. A podcast is just creating MP3 files from your audios &#8211; it can be you reading an article, giving advice, teaching how to do something or an audio recording of a teleseminar or webinar you did. If you&#8217;ve been creating MP3 audios and putting them on your blog, you&#8217;re already a podcaster whether you knew it or not. </p>

<p>So don&#8217;t be frightened of becoming a podcaster, especially since you don&#8217;t have to get it perfect &#8211; a pretty good podcast will see you through. Your best podcasts will be the ones that deliver the most information, information helpful to your target audience, irregardless of the quality of your MP3 audios.</p>
<p>Now that doesn&#8217;t mean you should have a lot of background noise or poor recording quality &#8211; your best podcasts should be crystal clear and easy to understand. But creating a pretty good podcast can be done with the standard mic and headset combinations for computers, or even with the mic built into most laptops and netbooks these days. </p>
<p>If you need a podcast tutorial there are a lot of Podcasting 101 type of resources online, but really it&#8217;s just a matter of recording the material you want and then uploading the audio MP3s to your blog or using an RSS feed to submit your podcast site to a podcast directory like Podcast Alley or iTunes.</p>
<p>But the main point here is it doesn&#8217;t have to be perfect &#8211; you don&#8217;t need fancy intros, background music, audio effects and the like &#8211; nor do you need to have that perfect &#8216;radio voice&#8217;. As long as you speak clearly and don&#8217;t have a heavy accent you&#8217;ll be fine &#8211; or, of course, you can always have a friend, colleague or pro voiceover artist do the MP3 recording if you feel your voice isn&#8217;t &#8216;right&#8217; for your podcasts. </p>
<p>In general though, don&#8217;t get too wrapped up in the technical side of RSS feeds, creating MP3 audios, building an RSS script, etc &#8211; focus on the content you deliver, and on delivering that helpful content on a regular schedule. As any successful podcaster can tell you, consistency is more important than the quality of your MP3 audios, as long as you&#8217;re producing a pretty good podcast at the minimum. </p>

<p>Affiliate marketing, and Internet marketing in general have both changed majorly as a result of the global recession. While there is still plenty of money to be made with online marketing, it definitely takes more time and effort to truly succeed online compared to just a couple of years ago. </p>
<p>In my own case, the month between my last post and this one is by FAR the longest break in my blogging since 2004. But don&#8217;t take that as a sign I&#8217;ve been idle &#8211; after speaking at Mark Hendricks&#8217; <strong>Internet Super Stars Conference</strong> in Orlando Florida in January we launch our <a href="http://www.PowerStart2010.com" target="_blank">PowerStart Internet Marketing coaching</a> program in February and our <a href="http://www.affiliate-marketing-powerstart.com" target="_blank">Affiliate Marketing PowerStart coaching</a> program at the start of April. So not only am I tied up on coaching calls every Monday &#038; Wednesday night, but the Internet marketing coaching program alone required the time for me to create over 1.5 GIGS of training videos to supplement the webinars! </p>

<p>And May looks no less hectic &#8211; including a new launch from Jeff Dedrick and a quick trip to Philadelphia where I&#8217;ll be speaking at <a href="http://www.live-internet-marketing-events.com" target="_blank">Ken McArthur&#8217;s <strong>JVAlert Live!</strong> seminar</a>, which runs May 14th to 16th.  </p>
<p>So why do I say this launch comes when needed most? Because a service like Affiliate Silver Bullet is one more opportunity to add additional income streams where most of the work is already done for you&#8230;</p>
<p>Like myself, many of this blog&#8217;s community jumped all over ClickBank Pirate when Cindy and Soren launched it last year, and I&#8217;m pleased to say it made me money both during the launch and every single month since then. If you missed it, CB Pirate is a service that creates a new site for you to promote each month with a video squeeze page and free report to give away. Once a prospect downloads the report they&#8217;re placed in an autoresponder series that promotes one ClickBank product in the same niche as they&#8217;re free report. So literally all you do is drive traffic to your squeeze page each month and their pre-made system takes over from there to make the sale for you.</p>
<p>Affiliate Silver Bullet is much the same, but with one major difference. If there was any flaw in the CB Pirate service it was that you don&#8217;t own the list it generates &#8211; since people opt in to the system&#8217;s autoresponder, the list stays there, not under your control. That&#8217;s great for selling that product, but you then don&#8217;t have access to them to sell additional products, promote your own sites, etc. </p>
<p>Bearing that in mind, Cindy &#038; Soren have addressed that issue in this new launch&#8230; With the sites from <a href="http://www.affiliate-silver-bullets.com" target="_blank">Affiliate Silver Bullet</a> you have your choice of leaving it all hosted and automated by them, or downloading the materials and putting hem on your own site, thus using YOUR autoresponders and leaving the resulting list in YOUR control! </p>
<p>At least in my humble opinion, I now have the best of both worlds &#8211; when I&#8217;m really busy elsewhere I can just leave things as they are and simply drive traffic to my CB Pirate and ASB squeeze pages each month, and when I have more time can set up a month&#8217;s ASB package on one or more of my 150+ websites and use it as a lead generator as well as a profit center. </p>

As such, it&#8217;s always best to deal with both subjects at once at you strategize your Internet marketing attack.</p>
<p>Lets look at 7 powerful ways to drive targeted traffic and build opt-in lists&#8230;</p>
<ul><b>
<li> Article Marketing</b> &#8211; Writing and submitting articles is one of the easiest free ways to start driving targeted prospects to your links &#8211; especially when that link leads to a squeeze page with a free PDF, audio or video with more information on the same topic. Stay within the guidelines of the article directory, provide great content and offer more information on the topic through the link in your Author&#8217;s Resource Box. </li>
<p><b>
<li> Using Blogs</b> &#8211; The first of the interactive web 2.0 technologies to gain wide appeal was blogging &#8211; and it remains one of the most powerful methods to drive traffic and build lists. Be sure your opt-in form appears on the blog itself, and use the articles you have at the directories as the bulk of your blog content. Be sure to use the appropriate blog plugins to maximize your SEO benefits, and to hook you up to traffic sources like Twitter, MyBlogLog and Technorati. </li>
<p><b>
<li> Using Podcasts</b> &#8211; A podcast is simply information presented in audio format, usually as an MP3. Since you already have those articles and your blog, now record an audio version of them and place them with the article on your blog using an audio plugin. Be sure to mention your URL in each recording, and check to see if the plugin you&#8217;re using is building a separate RSS feed for your podcasts &#8211; if it isn&#8217;t, create one manually and submit the RSS feed to iTunes, PodcastReady, Podcast Alley, etc. These directories are accessed by millions of users, and they don&#8217;t index articles or blogs, so audio is the only way to get your message to their users. </li>
<p><b>
<li> Video Marketing</b> &#8211; Like podcasts, videos are just one more media to present your information in. Whether you use live-action video or create screen-capture videos, you can repurpose the same info you have for your articles and podcasts by making them into videos and getting them out to YouTube, Viddler, etc. Make sure you have the link to your site within the video along with a call to action, and spell out your link in the description area that accompanies each video. </li>

<li> Using Free Downloads</b> &#8211; One of the most powerful ways to get people onto your opt-in list is through a squeeze page &#8211; a page offering an incentive to those who sign up. That incentive is usually a PDF report, an audio or a video that contain helpful information on the topic at hand &#8211; the topic targeted by your marketing efforts. And you already have the raw materials for the gift &#8211; your articles, podcasts and/or videos. Once again, compile the articles, audios or videos into a single download and build a page giving them away to those who opt to join your list. Use the social media sites like Twitter &#038; Facebook, your blog, etc. to drive traffic to that gift and build your list. </li>

<li> Using Teleseminars and Interviews</b> &#8211; Are you an expert in your niche? If so, set up a teleseminar and spend an hour giving out valuable information to your audience. Require a signup to your list for entry to the call, and be sure to include a Q&#038;A session at the end so people get the most from it. If you&#8217;re not an expert, arrange to interview someone who is and use that as your live call. Be sure to record the call either way, and offer the replay and/or download from a squeeze page for ongoing list-building from it. If a live teleseminar isn&#8217;t possible, do the interview by phone or Skype and record it, then offer the replay from the squeeze page. Another method is to grab an expert and ask a series of 5-10 questions, then break each question and answer down into a series of podcasts to use sequentially. </li>

<li> Using Affiliate Programs</b> &#8211; Do you have products of your own for sale online? If so, set up an affiliate program and spend some time each week recruiting new affiliates and joint venture partners to promote your products. Set up &#8216;affiliate funnels&#8217; &#8211; automatic e-courses that go to the prospects your affiliates refer. The e-course should deliver strong content while pre-selling your product and be designed to lead the prospect to buy your product &#8211; and hopefully more than one. Be careful not to use affiliate links in your e-course, as you don&#8217;t want to overwrite the cookies for the referring affiliate. The better the e-course converts prospects to buyers the greater the affiliate commissions you&#8217;ll be paying out, and the harder your affiliates will be working to drive traffic to your squeeze page, thus making you more money and building your list that much faster. </li>
