Live Internet marketing events are a growing and vital part of our industry these days, with more and more of them popping up every day. Unfortunately some of the best have met their demise after years of operation, in large part due to the global recession and people’s reservations about flying. Equally unfortunately, this resulted in a drop in high-quality content-based events, while the ‘pitchfests’ – events that really do nothing but sell you into high-priced programs, have been fine since they grab so much cash from almost every participant.

Yet great live Internet marketing seminars and conferences are a powerful and necessary tool both for individual marketers and for the growth of Internet marketing itself. Fortunately some of the best seminars are continuing – their operators have come up with unique twists to allow them to continue in spite of economic hardships. Ken McArthur, for instance, is the man behind the JV Alert Live seminars, one of the best-known and most-loved on the circuit. This year, Ken created smaller events in a great many more communities, making it that much easier for marketers to attend the events. No matter how Ken organizes his events, you can rest assured you’ll get great value in both knowledge gained and networking – Ken simply wouldn’t let you down, no matter what it takes for him to deliver. It’s just not in him to let people down, which is part of what’s earned him the reputation as ‘the nicest guy in the biz’.

Another great live Internet marketing events pro is Mark Hendricks. Mark has restructured his Internet Super Stars Conference to make sure EVERY attendee gets a lot more out of it – possibly even more than at any other seminar in the past, no matter who was presenting it. I’m proud to be included as one of the speakers at this event, not the least because it may just set a new standard for live Internet marketing events worldwide!

Sounds hypie, I know – but stay with me a minute here….

Mark has taken a look at the feedback he gets from all different events, and found the majority of complaints about any live event falls into one of two categories:

A) The Event Is A Pitchfest: This type of event delivers no useful content, or very little. Every speaker comes up, tells you their ‘rags-to-riches’ story and names the method they used to make their fame & fortune – and that’s it. If you want anything more, you have to ‘buy these books, those courses and sign up for this mentoring program – Where’s your pen? Sign here, press hard, you’re making three copies… oh, and who’s your mortgage broker?’
Solution: No problem, Mark’s events have NEVER been like those – and never will be. Like Ken, Mark is very protective of his reputation as a straight-shooter.

B) The Information Goes Over People’s Heads: Even been to an event, or even a class in school or college, where the info just wasn’t sinking in that day? Maybe it was too advanced, maybe you got lucky the night before and are daydreaming, or maybe it was just a disconnect with the way the information was presented. Whatever the case, when it was over your first response was probably ‘Uh, What?’… This is especially true of newbies in Internet marketing, who often get confused by all the acronyms and labels specific to this industry, terms they’ve never run into before.
Solution: Mark has come up with the perfect solution here… Realizing a lot of people only learn through hands-on experience, he’s solved that one too. Each presenter at the seminar is going to do both their presentation and a Q & A session – so really you’re getting more of a workshop than a speech! And the presenters are hanging out all weekend, so you have plenty of time to seek out any information you need to really grasp EVERYTHING. Don’t be afraid to come up and introduce yourself, ask us questions or just network & hang out with us!

The only downside? The Internet Super Stars Conference is in just two weeks – January 15-17th, 2010. To take part in this historic event you have to act NOW! Mark has arranged a really good rate for your hotel – just $109US a night – so be sure to read the info carefully on just how to get this rate, ok?

For full info and to book your seat at this event, see all the info on the Internet Super Stars Conference site.

POWER TIP: If you can’t make the convention, head over to the page anyway and sign up for a free membership – that gives you access to the recordings of all the pre-event seminars we’ve been holding. Not as good as being at the event live, but still a ton of great helpful information for free!

For my last post here in 2009, I want to go beyond Internet marketing and delve into something that can make every part of your life better in 2010 – your attitude towards business, success, people and life itself!

How often have you heard someone say “Must be nice to be rich’, ‘That’s easy for him to say, with all his money’, ‘It’s easy for her – she’s famous’ or ‘If I had his money, I’d…’ You’ve probably used one or more of these, or something similar, within just this last year, haven’t you?

Whether you realize it or not, you’re not belittling them – you’re putting yourself down and re-enforcing a negative self-image of yourself. Look over those quotes again – can you see that they create an ‘us vs. them’ scenario with you on the losing end? It’s in small, subtle ways like those that we sabotage ourselves all too often – but we CAN fix that with a simple attitude change.

Let go of limits, forget circumstances and just envision your life as you wish it was right now. How would you spend your day? Would you work, run our own business, wheel and deal, or be enjoying retirement? What would you be doing to help others? What would the effects be from your wealth and power – on you, your friends and society in general?

Now hang on to that image of yourself – it’s not a fairytale version of you, it’s the as-yet unrealized reality of you.

Suddenly ‘must be nice…’ becomes ‘it’ll be so nice when…’ and ‘if I had his money’ becomes ‘when I have that much I’ll…’

Most importantly, hang on to your answers to those last two questions – THAT’S where true, lasting motivation can be derived to help you realize your desired self – because it’s a tough haul to get to those lofty levels and you probably won’t stick it out just for yourself – we’re all just too good at settling for less. It’s those we can help and the wrongs we can right that we won’t give up on, that will help us stick with it through thick and thin.

Well, the ball’s about to drop to kick off the new decade here, so I wish you nothing but Health, Wealth and Prosperity throughout it… Now go after them with gusto!

PowerStart 2010: Little Steps To Big Internet Marketing Profits

©2009 Doug Champigny, DougChampigny.com. All Rights Reserved.

Internet marketing has evolved into quite the beast, hasn’t it? Blogging, salespages, squeeze pages, OTO’s, download pages, contact desks, PLR, web 2.0, social networking, teleseminars, webinars, podcasts, videos, e-courses, e-zines, affiliate programs, interviews, seminars, conferences, masterminds, cruises, bootcamps, joint ventures, membership sites, mentoring, coaching… All a part of Internet marketing as we head into the new decade. And that doesn’t include the higher-end strategies like telemarketing, direct mail & postcard marketing, advertising, infomercials and other offline tie-ins.

As professionals, the small group of us who have been working online full-time since the mid-nineties often marvel at the changes and wonder why we never seem to get everything done that we had planned to… Well no wonder – just go back and re-read that list! Without an ever-expanding staff or team of outsourcers and virtual assistants (and the related overhead), no one can even try to keep up with it all… We have to pick and choose what we think is the best use of our time and money based on our individual Internet marketing business and our overall online presence.

But stop and think for a moment about the poor newbie just starting into the industry… We’ve learned each new technology or strategy one by one as they came along, adding to our empirical knowledge of the beast. And watching our industry grow, nurturing it along from it’s first few wobbly steps and through it’s infancy has been a logical, if somewhat trial-and-error, process for us all, with each new piece either fitting into a slot in our existing operations or replacing a worn-out strategy (remember FFA pages? LOL)

To those first dipping their toes into the murky waters of Internet marketing today, the cacophony of options is deafening – and further amplified by the dozens or even hundreds of e-mails they receive all telling them they have to do this, that and the other thing – most contradicting each other and often even themselves! Worse yet, almost every one of those e-mails extols the ease of getting rich quickly with Internet marketing – a lie that simply sharpens the blade as the fear of failure hangs over them like the sword of Damocles. ‘Analysis paralysis’ sets in as they try to see how it all fits together and judge whom to follow, whom to trust and whom to disregard from the barrage of pitches they face daily.

Between the fear of failure, analysis paralysis and all the technologies and strategies, is it any wonder that 98.5% will never make money online, or that only about .5%, if that, will go on to earn a living from Internet marketing? Yet it certainly doesn’t have to be that way…

While our egos may not like to admit it, those of us at the top of the game know that none of what we do each day is rocket science. While we’re constantly refining our techniques and trying to uncover profitable new strategies, these are just degrees of advancement – the basic steps we take each day are not complex. The trick to helping more neophyte marketers succeed is to guide them as they learn the business the same way we did – one step at a time.

If you’re an internet marketing newbie, don’t try to digest it all at once – and don’t feel any pressure to make money fast online. It’s not the right milieu for you if you’re under the gun to raise your rent money or stave off foreclosure – spend your time finding part-time work and dig yourself out of that hole, then turn to Internet marketing as a way to supplement your income or secure your future long-term instead.

Then as you foray into the fray, trial-and-error will be your steed, focus and action your weapons. Yes, you have a lot to learn, and you’re going to make mistakes both big and small. We all do. Live with it. You can minimize your mistakes, both in number and severity, by hiring a good mentor and following their advice to a ‘T’ until you’ve achieved a modicum of success online. Until then ignore conflicting advice – most pros will never intentionally mislead you but there are many paths to success online and trying to follow a number of different systems will overwhelm and confuse you. Just pick one proven path and walk it til you know the business better and have regular income coming in from it.

Start by setting up a blog, an e-zine and a squeeze page to get people onto your new list. Give yourself a week – two at most – to get that much done. Don’t do anything else til those are prepared – learn how to do them and get them completed. That is all you need to get your toe in the door, and it’ll help train you to take focused, concentrated action on the tasks at hand while blocking out the rest of the noise that’s part and parcel of the Internet marketing arena.

From that point forward learn to use the social media and web 2.0 sites to drive traffic to your blog and your squeeze page and you’ve set the wheels in motion… Whether you choose to start into affiliate marketing, resell rights marketing or creating your own products from that point on is up to you – consult your mentor on the best path based on your talents, goals and aspirations. But those first small steps – setting up your blog and starting your e-mail lists – will provide the solid foundation you need from this day forward – and do wonders for your confidence and pride in a job well done!

Internet marketer Lee McIntyre has released four new e-books that you can now download for free from our site.

Included in the free downloads are the following Internet Marketing e-books:

• 27 Free Internet Marketing Tools

• Profit 13 Ways

• Niche Selection Strategies

• Quick Start Kunaki

These are all excellent e-books, as you’ll surmise if you’ve ever seen any of Lee’s e-books, audios, videos or live training sessions & workshops. You can download Lee McIntyre’s Internet Marketing E-Books for free for now, although I do reserve the right to turn them into a paid product in the near future – or at least make them available only as a bonus to one of our paid products.

These four e-books join a whole raft of products Lee has made available for free, n large part to introduce himself to the North American and Asian Internet marketing audiences. Based in the UK, Lee’s live training weekends have attracted marketers from all over the world, but still for the most part from the UK and Europe due to proximity.

The biggest and most valuable of this free content is his Free Internet Marketing Seminar DVD, the complete video recordings of his ‘Inside-Out Upside-Down Marketing’ seminar held in August 2009. While those in attendance paid up to $997 to attend, Lee is now making the DVD available for free to anyone paying the slight shipping charge incurred to get the DVD to them. As you would expect, the DVD’s are flying out the door, and he has yet to say whether he’ll re-order or simply pull the DVD from release once his stock runs out.

Other free offerings include his Mailing Lists Unleashed e-book, his Build A List Today video, his How to Effortlessly Score Big Joint Ventures video, his Quick Cash Escalator video and his Uncover The Great Big List Building Lie interview.

When you see the quality of Lee McIntyre’s free Internet marketing gifts, and how many he has provided, it’s easy to see why I’m an affiliate for him – and why you should be too. People are raving about his materials, both free and paid, so if you’re going to be telling people about his stuff and passing it along you should be doing as I did above, using your affiliate link to let people know about the free Internet marketing resources currently available to them from Lee.

But in the meantime, at least grab the free Internet marketing 4-pack and his free marketing workshop DVD for your own use!

If it were still August 2009, you’d have no problem… You could buy airfare and fly to the UK, book a weekend in a nice hotel, and shell out another $997 on top of that to attend Lee McIntyre’s ‘Inside Out / Upside Down’ training seminar. Instead, you’ll have to settle for getting the videos of the event – for Free!

Yes, these are the videos of the exact content – the exact show that Lee himself put on at that event, which many felt was some of the best Internet marketing training sessions they had attended anywhere – at any price. Why? Because Lee McIntyre, a retired schoolteacher, promised to teach them how to build a $20,000 A MONTH Internet marketing business – a true dream for most work-at-home entrepreneurs…

And by all accounts, he delivered – and then some! You see, Lee has developed his own online business into the 6-figure a month range – 5 times that of what he was teaching in the sessions, so no one can dispute he knows his stuff. While most Internet marketing hopefuls struggle for year to get to 6-figures a year, Lee’s doing that each month…

Now, he didn’t promise to take people to that point – at least not with this one-weekend training camp – but he HAS developed some awesome coaching programs that are taking the Internet marketing industry by storm! And that’s exactly why he’s letting you have these powerful training videos for free – he hopes you’ll learn a lot from them, make a lot more money online, and then enroll in his coaching to reach even loftier goals.

He knows you won’t do that if you don’t make anything extra due to the content of these sessions, yet still he’s letting you have them for free. Must be pretty sure of himself, pretty sure they’ll work for any online marketer then, mustn’t he?
In fact, according to Lee himself, he was originally going to sell the videos of the sessions for $1,997 – but after seeing the videos, and hearing the feedback from the sessions themselves, he feels he’ll make more money by simply GIVING you the videos and letting you experience the Internet marketing training content he delivers. He’s that sure you’ll be back for more!

There’s one more benefit to getting your free training DVD if you don’t live in the UK… So far, Lee’s seminars are all within the UK, so unless you live there it involves international travel to attend one. But this Free DVD brings the seminar to you, so be sure to get one before they run out, or before he comes to his senses and attaches a hefty price tag to this valuable information… By now hopefully you know me and what I stand for well enough to know I wouldn’t promote it as an affiliate if it weren’t first-class, but Lee’s stuff always is. Check out the DVD and see for yourself!

One note: In the interest of total transparency, while the videos are free for you, there is a minor charge to cover the shipping of the DVD – but by now you already know you pay your shipping on anything you buy online, right? Still, I’m always totally honest and open with you, so I had to mention it anyway, ok? So go order your training sessions right now while it’s still top-of-mind & I’ll see you next post!

Let’s face it – unless you’re lucky enough to have a huge opt-in list or deep pockets for PPC or JV bonuses, chances are your Internet marketing and affiliate marketing have taken a real hit since the ‘recession’ hit online sales the last week of April.

You see signs of it everywhere in the biz today – Internet marketers suddenly selling everything and anything they can get their hands on for $1.98 or $2.95 (an unsustainable, knee-jerk reaction), gurus suddenly switching to bringing offline businesses online and the like…

Naturally, they couch the latter in glowing terms, but let’s be honest a minute – people who have been making millions online suddenly focusing on finding clients in the offline world to charge them $5,000 up front and maybe $500 a month to continue with the program. The ongoing SEO etc is outsourced, so they keep a portion of that, and some are touting it as the way of the future, right?

Here’s a point to ponder… How many of those offline businesses would it take to match the millions they were making? How much time would it take to find and convince enough offline businesses to use the service? Even if that were possible in this economy, once all the clients come aboard, how much time would be involved in setting up and coordinating the ongoing services? In servicing and reporting back to the clients each month?

Appears to me that like all the rest of us, they’re doing a lot more work, putting in a lot more time and making a lot less right now…

Another example that’s harder to spot until you reach a certain level is demonstrated by Jeff Dedrick’s Send Button Profits launch that’s on right now. I and many other of Jeff’s friends and JV partners starting promoting it right from the start of the pre-launch – and some of us have done very well with it, since it’s a truly great product/service/pricing combination…

When the actual launch started on Tuesday, at least 4 of the A-Level gurus sent their first promos on it to all their lists. Now understand, these are guys used to sweeping in on the launch and capturing first spot with an e-mail… Fact is, 24 hours later not one of those 4 was even in the top 20! Yet another view of the diminishing returns we’re all experiencing right now! (If you haven’t seen Send Button Profits yet, feel free to visit it through my affiliate link – as I write this I’m still Top-10 there and would really like to keep it that way. ;-) But do it for the great free & paid content, not just to help me!)

OK – so no big news there, right? Everyone’s talking about, and blaming, the recession…

But what if it’s NOT a recession, but turns out to be a CORRECTION in the economy?

After all, how many manufacturing jobs are left in North America right now? How much income have both the population and the Governments of Canada & the U.S. lost as a result? Same with the 1 million plus jobs that have disappeared since the start of the year…

And some financial types pointed out for years that the stock market had gone from about 7,000 to 11,000+ with no underlying increase in GDP – a bubble waiting to burst? And burst it did, as we all know, forcing the governments worldwide to pump billions or trillions collectively into propping up the economic cycle – funds taken from their depleted incomes and/or yet to be paid by future generations…

I’m no trained economist, not even a financial expert – but maybe, just maybe, this isn’t a recession but instead a new reality… What then?

Internet marketers and affiliates who cling to the hope of a quick return to better times will be washed out of the business, realizing too late the changes they need to make… And the effects will be most dramatic at the top levels, where big dogs have heavy overheads from technological services, staff wages, outsourcing costs, etc.

Marketers just starting out will find it harder to get a true foothold, but won’t be as negatively impacted as they have yet to get to a level where they depend on their online income to survive. Mid-level marketers will probably be divided into two groups – those who acknowledge the truth early and take steps to continue their growth, and those who don’t and slide downhill til they have to find employment offline once more.

Survival and prosperity would still be possible in the Internet marketing industry and for work-at-home affiliate marketing businesses – but it will most likely take two things, both antithetical to most marketer’s personalities:

Financial Prudence and Hard Work!

The first is proved by a simple concept – if you have less sales revenue or affiliate commission coming in, your spending has to reflect that too. Only governments can seemingly continue spending more and more while revenues drop – and even they eventually have to face the music.
Take a long hard look at your monthly commitments and keep only those that directly benefit you and your business and contribute directly to your bottom line.

Don’t slash your spending recklessly – that can kill a business just as much as overspending can. But be sure you’re not still paying for resources you don’t use anymore, or for perks that were more appropriate when times were good. This is the first global downturn the Internet marketing industry has faced, and some of what we all considered benefits that go hand-in-glove with our online businesses will need to be forsaken – and it’ll sting even more at first since we’d never envisioned giving up any part of our elevated lifestyles!

‘Work Smarter – Not Harder!’ has been a rallying cry in our industry and many others for years – but maybe now it’s time to alter that to ‘Work Smarter AND Harder!’ This is where I’ll lose some of the people reading this post – those who were attracted to the biz by nonsense like promises of a 4-hour work-week or get-rich-quick promises made by unethical promoters. (Notice I said promoters, not marketers – no professional marketer would make claims so easily disproved or so corrosive to their long-term success.)

It’s not as bad as it sounds, though – it’s a matter of keeping up to date with what’s working best RIGHT NOW, increasing your reach through building a bigger opt-in list and doing more to generate targeted traffic, only paying for ghostwriting and outsourcing when it will increase your net profits in short order, and more effort put into networking for joint ventures and a larger mastermind pool to draw inspiration and ideas from.

To use Jeff’s launch as an example once more, 3 of the Top 5 positions in the JV contest are held by TEAMS of 2 or more marketers, each of whom might have been at that level on their own before everything changed – Smart marketers who are already accepting the new reality and taking action to minimize the effects it has on their businesses!

By keeping your overhead as low as prudently possible while still allowing you to grow and increasing both the volume and effectiveness of your efforts, you should still be able to build a solid & sustainable Internet marketing business and do very well with it – both individually and collectively in conjunction with those you partner with.

And if the economy DOES turn around and reach those lofty levels again?

With a low overhead, growth strategies in place and your increased output and effectiveness, the potential for profits will be higher than ever before! Avoid the most common trap – don’t increase general overhead just because you can, let the same diligence govern your spending as during this time. And don’t ease up in your personal activity level or networking – during good times they represent not mere survival but the foundation of more rapid rises in status and income!

Yes, you can spend more as you make more (within reason) – just make it purchases covered by existing funds, not debt that will add to your overhead again! Couple that with avoiding all but necessary long-term contracts and you’ll keep your overhead low – protecting you better from the next hiccup in the economic cycle…

Now don’t misunderstand here – I’m no legally-licensed legal, financial or business expert and the above cannot be construed as professional advice, so please accept it as it’s meant: Observations from a friend and mentor who’s been online full-time since the 1990′s and the conclusions I’ve personally drawn from my experience and observations. And, I hope, of some help to you both in surviving the current state of the economy and WHATEVER the future holds for the industry!

To You continued and ever-increasing success,

Doug Champigny,
Internet marketer, super-affiliate, mentor & speaker.

How To Choose An Internet Marketing Mentor Or Coach

©2009 Doug Champigny. All Rights Reserved.

[Continued from Learning From Your Mistakes... ]

In the last post you read about the simplest of follies – making mistakes you could easily avoid by having a mentor to guide you through the pitfalls and landmines of Internet marketing and affiliate marketing. But that begs the question of how to choose the right mentor or coach for YOU and YOUR online business…

To the uninitiated, this seems like a simple question to answer – just do a search for ‘Internet Marketing Mentor’ or ‘Affiliate Marketing Mentor’ on Google, check the first few results and choose one, right?

When you’ve been online long enough you’ll run into dozens, possibly thousands of people who have paid for coaching and still haven’t made a dime online. Sometimes it’s because they got good advice and didn’t follow it, but more often than not they picked the wrong mentor – either someone who wasn’t truly qualified or someone who just wasn’t a good coach for them personally…

So how does one know? First, look at what the person DOES, not what they say…

Have they released a new product in the last 6-9 months? The Internet marketing game evolves faster than just about any other, and a launch a year ago doesn’t mean the person still knows the current state of the biz. Far too many ‘gurus’ out there have been riding on their laurels for 3-5 years, and still teach what worked back then. Ignore their reputation as a big dog and look at what they have that’s CURRENT.

Have they released products on all or most areas of the business over time? Most Internet marketing gurus made their reputation on just one area of the business – so what qualifies them to teach you the other parts? Make sure the mentor you choose is experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of Internet and affiliate marketing before forking over your hard-earned cash…

Don’t be fooled because someone has had a big launch, no matter how successful that launch. Here’s a scenario that DOES happen, one most newer marketers are unaware of… Someone with a few connections in the business, or who has met a few big dogs at a convention and picked their brains, digs into their savings and pulls out $20,000.

They then hire a programmer to create a new-fangled bit of software that either automates a task currently done manually or simply makes a few tweaks to improve existing programs. Next they hire a writer to ghostwrite a report and an e-book on the same or closely related topics, then to follow those up with a series of articles and blog posts. A web designer builds the sales page, squeeze page and blog theme, and someone is paid to start submitting the articles and posting the blog posts.

To that point they’ve used about $7,500, so next they hire an SEO person to tweak the site and blog, handle the Web 2.0 sites and blog commenting, and see that the site starts getting a lot of traffic. In the meantime a JV broker is enlisted to get as many JV partners on board as possible for the launch, and since most JV Brokers work on commission, the remaining $10,000 can be used for JV prizes to attract the top affiliates and JV partners.

Then launch day comes and it’s a hit, doing $100,000 or more in sales in the first week alone, and the person is hailed as a marketing genius and joins the speaker circuit as a big dog, where their reputation continues to grow…

But wait a minute… What does this person know about any of this? Only how to arrange it if you already have a ton of money and get everyone else to do the work – they don’t even need to know squat about what their product DOES! Now they have this big reputation, no way to continue other than to repeat it all… Or to use their current popularity to launch a coaching program!

So when hiring a mentor, make sure they’ve had products in various areas of the business, that they’ve been online a fairly long time, and that their experience is current. Since affiliate marketing is an important part of most online marketers’ incomes as well, watch to see if you see them on various leaderboards in the big launches, too. It’s amazing how many people claim to be affiliate marketing experts, or super-affiliates, yet you never see their names crop up in the big launches…

I can hear the howls of protest already – many super-affiliates claim, some rightly so, that they make their money in the niches, away from the Internet Marketing big leagues… Maybe so – but if you were looking to become a great driver, do you want a local teen instructor or a NASCAR or Formula One pro? Marketers go to the niches because it’s easier, with less competition – and they tell you so right up front! Wouldn’t you rather follow the advice of someone not afraid to battle it out in the trenches, someone who’s doing well in the biggest of battles? ;-)

And finally, here’s a tip you probably won’t see elsewhere… Try to find a mentor with considerable offline experience in marketing as well – preferably advertising or direct mail marketing. While it’s true the tools are different online, almost every innovation to hit Internet marketing and affiliate marketing come from the offline world – and online marketing is still years behind in that arena.

Think about that for a moment… E-zines are just the online version of direct mail or direct response advertising, free reports are just glorified brochures, driving traffic has always been the mandate of advertising agencies and corporate advertising departments… Even affiliate marketing itself is just the online version of commission sales!

And what about the new, hot system being touted as a breakthrough? Give a free gift to get them to buy something small, then contact them again and again, each time pushing something a bit bigger and a bit more profitable? If you were around in the 1990′s online, when Jimmy D Brown first started that part of our biz, you’ll remember he modeled it exactly on the Sears Portrait Studios system, that started by offering a free keychain and a year later had sold you $350 worth of prints, remember?

That’s why the biggest in there field online have strong offline experience too – Jay Abraham is a top marketing consultant, Carl Galletti is the top copywriting consultant and Michael Masterson is the mentor to the biggest online marketing entities…

Now unless you have EXTREMELY deep pockets you won’t be able to hire those three as mentors until you’re already making millions online, but you get the idea – and you can get their e-zines, which will help you see the bigger picture. That won’t replace your need for a pro to guide you, but the knowledge you glean from them sure won’t hurt, either! ;-)

To finish off this report that started as a blog post (LOL), let me add one intangible that you have to heed as well – make sure your personality and your mentors mesh well. Try their e-zine for a bit to see if you like their style, and trade e-mails with them asking exactly what they include and don’t include in their mentoring. Before long you’ll know if it’s a good fit…

Don’t kid yourself about it – be honest with the person and yourself about your current abilities, how much you’re willing to invest in both time and effort AND cash, and what your true goals are online. Be sure the person knows all of this and agrees it’s a good fit for their program. Then live up to everything you claimed, and make them live up to their promises too. Very few coaching or mentoring clients put in the effort they promise to, so by walking the walk to match your talk you’ll stand out – and no doubt get even more help and guidance than you’re paying for!

So be sure to choose your Internet marketing mentor wisely, that there credentials are what you need, that your personalities match sufficiently and that you heed and follow their advice to a tee – and give 110% to the task at hand. You’ll not only rise through the Internet marketing ranks quickly, but you’ll make a lot more than you’re planning to if you get it all right, right from the start!

Learning From Your Mistakes May Be Your Biggest Mistake

©Doug Champigny. All Rights Reserved.

I saw a quote go by on Twitter recently that I really liked. I appologize for not knowing who to attribute it to, but it said:

Experience is a lousy teacher – it gives you the test first, then provides the lesson.

Amazing how true that is, yet there is a lot to be learned when we analyze our mistakes and our successes. So what do I mean when I say that learning from your mistakes may be your biggest mistake of all?

Simply this – while you should always learn from mistakes you make along your path, your wisest path avoids most of those mistakes upfront. Let’s take a look at how that applies specifically to your Internet marketing business, shall we?

Every single day I see mistakes being made in e-mails and e-zines I receive. I’m not referring to typos or grammatical errors – those are unimportant for the most part. No, I’m referring to people making major mistakes in how they’re trying to make money online, how they’re trying to build their online businesses or the people they’ve chosen to follow…

Naturally, for example, I’m invited into JVs and affiliate launches every day – every well-known marketer above a certain level is. On one last week, the ‘VIP partners’ program was paying out 40%, and I politely pointed out I never promote digital products for less than 50% minimum. May not seem like a big deal, but it’s the difference between $400 and $500 from a mailing, or $800 vs $1,000 per mail if the promotion goes over well – $100 or $200 a day certainly impacts one’s income over a year, doesn’t it? Yet the response was just ‘Well, the other VIP Partners are all happy with 40%…’

That person’s mistake wasn’t not changing his rate for me, even if many do. No, his mistake was in only offering 40% in the first place when trying to attract larger partners. While that’s a fair rate for a physical product, even regular affiliates should be making 50% or more on digital downloads, and VIP partners that much more. Don’t be short-sighted in your greed – making 25% on what big dogs can sell for you is much better than 60% on mid-level and smaller partners will bring in.

It’s the result of a common mistake – looking at everything short-term instead of keeping the bigger picture in mind. Be sure you’re not doing what seems right for right now but closing doors on future growth, or turning what could be a major long-term benefit into a short-term gain with no future benefit.

Another example is also obvious right now due to the recession and drop in sales online. A wedge has been driven between people in the mid-ground of the Internet marketing arena. There was a sudden drop in sales about the end of April this year, and two schools of thought emerged about how to deal with it.

The first group cut their price points significantly, often running sales for $1 or $2.95 on products they would otherwise have sold for $17 or $27 in the hopes of keeping their numbers up. They’re easy to spot, because they keep throwing a new product up two or three times a week and keep hammering away at their lists for the current ‘product du jour’. They have to, you see – by cutting their price they’ve maintained the same level of sales while reducing their income by 70 or 80%.

The second group, on the other hand, maintained their fair price points but added more value into their offers – as free incentives to get people to consider their offers, as bonuses to the product sales, or in the form of training teleseminars and webinars to make their product of that much more use to their followers.

And though money is tight for prospects everywhere, which group do you think is doing better? You guessed it – the latter group!

I could go on and on here – mistakes in list-building, promoting products that don’t match the interest of their lists, promoting products without checking them out, promoting products because they pay well or because they have great affiliate contests without regard for whether the product will help their followers, etc. Each is a mistake, and hopefully these people learn from those mistakes before they’re back out looking for a job instead, or giving up as one more person who thinks making money online is way too hard.

But the point of today’s post is to show that learning from those mistakes is a mistake in itself, since they could have been avoided in the first place. This isn’t a small matter – avoiding the most common mistakes can be the difference between 6 – 7 figures a year online and utter dismal failure to even get going well with your Internet marketing business and, more commonly, can shave months or even years off your income time horizon, putting you in a profit-producing state in months rather than years, and saving you considerable time and money along the way.

“Great – but just how do I avoid making these mistakes, especially if they’re so common? If so many others are making these same mistakes, how can I expect to avoid them?”

Great questions, so here’s a great answer: Instead of investing years in trial and error and spending thousands or tens of thousands of dollars along the way, hire a mentor to guide you through the minefield that is Internet marketing startups! There are a number of people who started at the bottom and are now making double, triple or ten times what the average job pays, working from the comfort of their homes with no boss to report to. Use their experience to your advantage. While the fess for a good mentor may seem shockingly high at first, it can quickly become obvious to you that it was the wisest investment you made online, and possibly the only one that will pay you back time and time again for the rest of your time online!

Stop getting bogged down by things you don’t yet know about doing business online, by constant start-and-stop cycles, and by putting so much time and effort into making money online with the only result being a dwindling bank account. Unless you like doing everything the hard way, putting in 10 times the necessary effort and have too large a bank account that you need to wipe out…

Hire a mentor, listen to and learn from them, and invest your time and money wisely to maximize your returns and minimize the time needed to enjoy those profits. You wouldn’t try to be a dentist without training from an oral surgeon first, you wouldn’t put a million dollars into the stock market without learning from a brokerage, and you wouldn’t step into the octagon without training from professional fighters. So don’t enter into your own online business, or any work-at-home endeavor, without the guidance of the best mentor you can afford.

Choosing the right mentor for you can be a daunting task, though – as fraught with pitfalls as trying to go it alone in Internet marketing. Next post I’ll show you some simple guidelines to simplify the task and help you choose the right mentor for YOU and YOUR particular business intents, ok? See you then!

Wow – What a call! The Top Traffic Tips Simulcast promised 2 hours of powerful tips on how to drive traffic to your sites and affiliate links, tips derived from the 25 years of combined experience Willie Crawford and I have in driving targeted traffic to our sites, blogs, salespages, squeeze pages and affiliate links.

But as you may have guessed, the rare opportunity for 2 6-figure online marketers to grill each other on traffic generation strategies couldn’t be stuffed into just two hours – even with us trying hard to respect the value of people’s time, the call went on for over 3 hours! And the content was superb if I do say so myself – over 100 people were still listening live by the end of this marathon event!

Top Traffic Tips From Doug Champigny & Willie Crawford

During the course of the call we covered FOURTEEN ways to drive massive amounts of highly-targeted traffic anywhere you want them to go online, teaching you how to build your lists, make more sales online and make more money with your affiliate marketing.

No single skill in Internet marketing is more valuable than the ability to motivate massive numbers of potential buyers to take action and click through to the products, services and affiliate opportunities you want them to see, because without tons of targeted traffic you can’t make more sales, make more money or even build your lists big enough to join us in the ranks of Internet marketing’s top earners nor achieve our super-affiliate status…

And no stone was left unturned… Willie even let the cat out of the bag on which ONE resource he uses to make his article marketing, podcasts, videos and press releases distribution push-button simple, and the service he uses to turn audios into PDF e-books to market online! We covered what’s working best RIGHT NOW to drive people to sites, and I even let a few tips slip about the most common mistake people are making when using Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Hub Pages and Google Knol in their marketing mix…

There’s good news for those who missed the call, though – the entire event, including the Q&A at the end of it all, was recorded and we’ve made the recording and transcribed PDF of the call available for you to learn from – or even to put online and sell yourself if you choose to pick up the Standard Resell Rights to this Top Traffic Tips bundle.

Imagine for a minute what it would cost you to get either of us to sit down with you and teach you our traffic generation secrets for 3 hours – you’re talking 4-figures for either of us. Then imagine what it would be like to get both of us to coach you – assuming you could find a time when our schedules match up again, and remembering we live 1,500 miles apart!

That gives you a better idea of how rare training like this is, and how valuable the information in it can be if you learn from it and take action using what you’ve learned.

Do yourself a big favor – If you’ve not already making 6 figures a year online or more, head on over and check out the details of the product – you’ll be amazed at how much we packed in there, and how much you can get out of it! Whether you want a copy just for your own use or want to sell this powerful product yourself, secure your copy right now from the Top Traffic Tips website and kick-start YOUR climb to the top of Internet marketing success!
