In a great post, Tinu Abayomi-Paul posted 15 Powerful Traffic Tips. To compliment that list, I want to add our most powerful traffic source to date - adding an affiliate program to your site!

Regular readers of our Marketing Domination E-Zine already know that we feel there’s only one web site hosting plan to use for your first 10 sites, in part because your $20 a month gets you the hosting for those 10 sites, unlimited pro autoresponders AND your own affiliate program.

By setting up your affiliate program, you make it worthwhile for other marketers to promote your products, sending more traffic to your site each time they do. So once you have your affiliate program in place, spend an hour or two each week inviting marketers to join your affiliate program, and over time you’ll find you have a growing group of affiliates sending you more and more traffic to your sites. In other words, if your product pays 50% commission, you can allow a select group of JV partners earn, say, 75% commission while the bulk of affiliates still get the 50%.

Not only is this ethical, but pretty much every ‘big dog’ uses this concept to keep the super affiliates in their program and promoting regularly. Keep this in mind when approaching any big-time affiliate marketers about your products - you’ll need to offer them a higher rate than the public one to catch their attention…

If you’re new to having your own affiliate program, be aware that for products that are digital downloads (i.e. e-books, software, audios, teleseminars, webinars, etc.) you can forget trying to get affiliates if you’re offering less than 50% commission. Standard rates now run from 50% to 75%, with super-affiliates getting 60% to 100%.

You may think giving someone 100% commission stops you from making any money, but a big dog can send you dozens, hundreds or even thousands of visitors/buyers, many of whom end up on your mailing list - making you more money in the long run than this one sale would. And if you’re creating your own products, this gets your name and products out in front of thousands more people, branding you in a much wider field worldwide.

At first, too many Internet marketers ignore or hardly consider their branding - big mistake! Because Teri & I ran our own full-service ad agency before coming online 11 years ago, we were well aware of the power of branding - the effect it has on your biz when ‘everyone knows your name’. As a result, for example, when we went to the live events in Philly & Orlando (JVAlert) and Baltimore (Marketing Main Event), EVERYONE we spoke to already knew who we were and at least some of our 50+ sites, and we didn’t get turned down once for the JV’s we asked people to do with us. THAT’S the power of good branding!
